Issue #45 – Poets of Faith – Deadline: April 15th
Our fall issue will be dedicated to Poets of Faith—and by that we mean poets who are adherents to a specific religious faith tradition. In a slight revision to the guidelines, the poems themselves need not be about faith, so long as the poet qualifies. After reading an early batch of submissions, we realized that your spirituality will be embodied somehow in your poetry, even if that’s not what you’re writing about explicitly, and it’s much more interesting to explore the subtle ways that faith affects the work.
So if you consider yourself a Poet of Faith, see our guidelines page, but the gist is this: Send up to six poems on any subject and a note explaining why you qualify to submissions@rattle.com by April 15th.

call for submissions: Greenville College's new journal, Scrib
We would like to invite you, your students, and your
colleagues to participate in an exciting new artistic venture. Scrib,
GC’s first online literary journal, is accepting submissions for its debut
issue in spring 2014. The journal accepts work from students and faculty in all
schools within the CCCU network and beyond. We want to see writing, art, music,
and videos that explore the human experience with authenticity, connect with
the reader on a personal level, and linger in the viewer’s mind long after
reaching the end.
The journal kicks off this month with a special contest for
high school and college students. The Live Arts contest encourages students to
produce creative work that celebrates the interaction of art and life. Grand
prize winners will be published in two of GC’s multimedia publications, Scrib
and The Vista.
See the Live Arts tab at scriblerus.greenville.edu to learn
more or submit work to the contest.
We look forward to working with you. For more information
about the journal and how to get involved, please contact Scrib Rachel
Heston-Davis (rachel.davis@greenville.edu)

Silver Boomer Books: Anthology Call for Submissions!
Silver Boomer Books
is the publisher of several anthologies on topics such as aging, roads
not taken, mentors, and childhood memories. They are currently seeking
submissions for their newest anthology entitled Longest Hours -- Thoughts While Waiting (working title):
"In this culture of instant gratification, we can hardly stand waiting. We have to have our iPads or iPhones so we can surf the internet or play games while we wait.
We wait for babies to be born and for classes to begin or end. We wait for test results – medical tests, English tests, eye exams, employment tests, personality tests, assessment tests of all kinds. We wait to be served in restaurants. We wait for people important to us to make decisions or get jobs or get well or get pregnant or get up and do something.
We wait in line – oh, do we ever wait in line. Someone once wrote that by the time people are 70 years old, they have waited in line a total of about five years. Can that be true?
All waiting is hard. What kind is hardest? Stories and poems might share emotions and experiences during long, excruciating waits. Sometimes waiting involves deep heartache and pain, anticipation of great joy, worry and anxiety, fear of danger, with dread or hope or happiness hinging on outcomes.
Waiting is very often a big part of suffering. Maybe through it we can gain the strength to transcend suffering and pain – not just to survive. Understanding how other people deal with waiting can help and strengthen us. Send us your stories or poems."
Deadline: April 15, 2013

Harpur Palate Call for Submissions
We are now calling for submissions for our upcoming issue 13.1! The theme for this issue is country living. We are looking for essays, stories, and poems that take us away from city skyscrapers and closer to the eclectic American countryside. We want to be taken to the apex of an Adirondack Mountain, to the front porch of Aunt Bernice's goat farm, to the bayous of Mississippi. Tell us what it was like to plow a field in the 1900's, what it feels like to milk a cow with your hands. And while you're at it, we've always marveled at the art of fly fishing.
We want to see more than the archetypal moonshiners who drive beat up pick-up trucks, and men who play fiddles that are lost in their beards, so give us more than “hillbilly” stereotypes and “hick” dialogue. Give us essays that will haunt us, stories with raw characters that we cannot forget, and poems that hum with nature. Bring the sounds of the American country alive and surprise us by what we find there.
The deadline is April 15. General submission guidelines apply. Check our blog for more details!<http://harpurpalate.blogspot.com/>
